Bio

Loretta Yussuff is a self-taught British painter of Nigerian/Lithuanian descent working exclusively with oil paints on canvas. Born and working in Brixton, South London.

Through her oil paintings she aims to re-imagine figures in a way that brings to life new sensations and depths of feeling. With an interest in the singularity of life and bringing inner worlds and universal themes to life visually to communicate the complexity of the human condition.

Loretta's  work balances technical skills with the deep guidance of intuition, storytelling through depicting members of her community. In her artistic journey, she has been inspired by the vitality of Van Gogh's work, the rawness of Schiele's, the dark imagination of Bacon's and the quiet intimacy of Vermeer's.

Member and part of the steering group of the collective South London Women's Artists  (SLWA)
